Back in 2008, Daniel Craig suggested that the Wire favorite and current Luther star act as his successor in the James Bond franchise. At the time, Elba said that while he doubted the opportunity would actually arise, he’d certainly be interested in taking over the role. In a recent interview with NPR, the actor revisited the subject (which he humbly referred to as “an old rumorâ€), saying, “I would do it, but I don’t want to be called the first black James Bond. Do you understand what I’m saying? Sean Connery wasn’t the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn’t the blue-eyed James Bond. So if I played him, I don’t want to be called the black James Bond.†A legitimate concern, though we personally can’t imagine wanting to call him anything other than Stringer Bell. [NPR]
