Later this month, Coldplay plans to webcast live a massive concert it is putting on in a Madrid bullfighting arena, and it has recruited Dutch photographer and legendary music video artiste Anton Corbijn to direct the performance, which is part of the American Express Unstaged concert series, in partnership with YouTube and Vevo. Corbijn, who happens to frequent the same gym as Coldplay face Chris Martin, is perhaps best known for his photography, including for the cover of U2’s The Joshua Tree album, and music videos, such as for Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box,†but has been expanding his repertoire of late: After the Coldplay gig, he’ll be adapting one of novelist John Le Carré’s latest novels, A Most Wanted Man. While the rounded Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas is a far cry more aesthetically (and acoustically) pleasing than the usual oblong stadiums where such concerts take place, Corbijn told the Times’ ArtsBeat blog that he was still a little hesitant, astrologically speaking. (His star sign is a Taurus, after all.) But with twelve cameras at his disposal, should still make for a rousing show. [ArtsBeat/NYT]
