Prestige alert: Michelle Yeoh stars in The Lady as Burmese political hero Aung San Suu Kyi, an activist and leader who spent twenty years under house arrest for trying to establish a democracy in Myanmar. Yeoh definitely has the steeliness-while-facing-weapons, softness-while-facing-loved-ones style down, which is a prerequisite for starring in a political biopic like this (think Romero, except that Aung San Suu Kyi is alive). The shots of the back of Yeoh’s flower-adorned head are particularly striking, so just as the teaser suggested, this does indeed appear to be a major change of pace for director Luc Besson.
