When the first Twilight movie debuted in 2008, its stars became instantly huge celebrities. Many of the young actors who started as relative unknowns underwent noticeable transformations in the three years between Twilight and Breaking Dawn, out today. The ever-polarizing Kristen Stewart has gone from an awkward, camera-shy tomboy, to a style star, posing for the covers Vogue, W, and Harper’s Bazaar and the like (not that she doesn’t still wear the occasional pair of sneakers on the red carpet). Robert Pattinson was named GQ’s “Best Dressed Man” in 2010, and made the wise choice to tone down his brooding hipster look and embrace his heartthrob potential with a more clean-cut style. And the formerly overlooked underwolfdog Taylor Lautner gained 30 pounds, some serious abs — and legions of squealing fans. The actors behind the film’s famous love-triangle aren’t the only ones who have gone through style transformations; see how the rest of the vampy bunch has changed since the first Twilight premiere in our slideshow, which is fun, even if you don’t care about Twilight.

For her first Twilight red carpet, Kristen Stewart made it pretty clear she wasn't comfortable dressing for a premiere. The dress looks like she grabbed it (or was put in it) simply because it fit the fancy, starlet-esque, age-appropriate checklist. But it was basically high-end prom attire, with an inexplicable birdsnest hairdo.
For Breaking Dawn, however, Stewart managed to look like her edgy self in a J. Mendel gown with a sleek updo that adds sophistication, and an apparent sheerness that gives us all a little visual puzzle to solve. Photo: Jason Merritt/2011 Getty Images

For Twilight, Pattinson presented himself as grungy and brooding in an all-black suit with tousled, unwashed-looking hair. In contrast, he looks like he's making a play for leading-man status at Breaking Dawn, with a clean-cut look. It says, "Hey, this franchise is finishing up and I need new work — so hire me. I bathe." He even almost smiled. Photo: Kevin Winter/2008 Getty Images

Upgrade! Transitioning from the oversize, Aaron Carter–ish boy-band suit to a sleek, well-tailored look straight out of a GQ editorial, Lautner got sexy. He ditched the moussed, spiky hair and the shirt that looks like it was borrowed from the Grease set, and he went for a suit that looks dashing and mature. Photo: Kevin Winter/2008 Getty Images

What a difference a gold tie-pin and good lighting make. Lutz traded his football-player-next-door look for what was probably intended to be a suave all-black getup. Unfortunately, it makes him look more like the talent's bodyguard (or a nightclub doorman) than the talent himself.

As one of the Twilight parents and older cast members, Reaser was probably already pretty comfortable on the first Twilight red carpet. She looks pretty in the short green dress, but the awkward belt sadly distracts from her bold lip and pretty face.
Three years later Reaser went for minimal makeup, darker hair pulled to one side, and a relatively simple dress for a look that suggested she'd spent a lot of time studying Angelina Jolie photos.

After wearing a dress that looked like wallpaper to her first Twilight premiere, Reed realized she needed to up the drama for Breaking Dawn. So she went for a look that shouted Hollywood: floor-length! Sparkles! Marchesa! But it read more like something an extra would have worn to a house party in Anchorman.

For Twilight, Greene wore a less-than-flattering Ina Soltani dress that, frankly, gave her ostrich butt. In sharp contrast, the fiery, striped Donna Karan gown Greene chose for Breaking Dawn shows off her silhouette and does not give her ostrich butt.

No, that's not a bottle girl caught on her way to work on the left — that's the original actress who played villainous Victoria, Rachel Lefevre. Bryce Dallas Howard replaced her in the third movie, Eclipse, and wore a pale-yellow vintage gown to that premiere. Of course, Victoria's dead now, so she's not at any of the Breaking Dawn press events and all we have are old red-carpet pictures. Photo: Jon Kopaloff/2008 Jon Kopaloff

Well, Rathbone really let his vampire character go to his head. The understated tuxedo has peculiarly been replaced by a crushed-velvet suit that is somehow shinier than all of Rachel Zoe's sequins. Photo: Frazer Harrison/2011 Getty Images

From a nice enough department store's racks (why the green tie?) to a Ralph Lauren boutique, Billy Burke's new look is much more sultry and mysterious. His velvet smoking jacket and side-bangs have Allure cover written all over them.

Facinelli hasn't undergone a huge transformation since the first Twilight premiere, save the addition of a jaunty silk scarf for that look that says "I go to libraries!"

The noticeably slimmer author swapped her floor-length, black, lace gown for a more flattering knee-length dress that actually gave her a waist. She's gone from looking like one of the teens who buys her books to the mature woman who wrote them — who also just might find her red-carpet looks on Rent the Runway.
