Oscar-winning Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black has scored a movie-star-size coup for his play 8, with George Clooney signing on for a Los Angeles reading of the thoroughly researched Prop. 8 drama. The L.A. Times reports that Clooney is the first actor announced for the reading, which will double as a fund-raiser for the American Foundation for Equal Rights.
“It is astonishing that gay and lesbian Americans are still treated as second-class citizens,†Clooney said in a press release from the foundation. “I am confident that, very soon, the laws of this nation will reflect the basic truth that gay and lesbian people — like all human beings — are born equal in dignity and rights.â€
Rob Reiner will direct the March 3 reading at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre.
