Tyler Perry is often front and center in his own movies, but in the new Good Deeds, he does it without a stitch of Madea makeup. Perry plays a successful, monotone businessman with a gleaming apartment and wife (Gabrielle Union), though his just-so lifestyle is thrown off when he gets attached to Thandie Newton, the struggling single mom who cleans his office. Will she teach him how to live and love and be charitable to the downtrodden (as long as they aren’t staff writers on his TBS shows)? Will Phylicia Rashad (as Perry’s mother) teach us all how to immediately pull focus with two wordless reaction shots? So many questions!
