Tom Cruise arrived in Tokyo, Japan today to hundreds of screaming fans. The Hollywood star touched down at Haneda International Airport where fans had been waiting for hours for a chance to the ‘Mission Impossible’ Star. Tom singed autographs and stopped for photos for nearly an hour, completing the first of the many missions he has on his 27 hour jaunt through the Land of The Rising Sun.

Tom Cruise will play the lead in All You Need Is Kill, a sort of Groundhog Day set during an alien war. He’ll play a soldier who relives his last day again and again; over the course of this cursed time-loop, the soldier improves his battle skills and maybe learns a little something about the nature of human suffering. Director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) has been kicking Kill around for a while and shooting is expected to start at the end of 2012. In Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s Japanese book, the protagonist Keiji is a young recruit, but Warner Bros. wanted an older, more established star — like their first choice, Brad Pitt. But hey, if there’s anyone who knows about alien battles, it’s Scientologist Tom Cruise.
