Meryl Streep’s self-deprecation at the Oscars apparently wasn’t for show. The new Oscar winner so respected Best Actress front-runner Viola Davis’s performance (okay, we’re speculating a bit here, but … ) that she donated $10,000 to a bankrupt charter school Davis has been championing in her hometown of Central Falls, Rhode Island. The Segue Institute for Learning is understandably psyched, Reuters reports: “We’ve just been screaming from the rooftops,†said Angelo Garcia, director of operations and the school’s founder. “We’re excited Meryl Streep has gotten the ball rolling for us, but we recognize there’s a long road ahead of us.†Pretty, pretty classy, Meryl.
