As yesterday’s team-up of Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, and Reese Witherspoon proved, though the modern era of moviegoing may have devalued star power in favor of set pieces, there’s always safety in numbers. And so we’ve got the teaser trailer for Neighborhood Watch, a summer comedy with a trio of heavy hitters: Ben Stiller (still unambiguously a movie star, though he’ll soon be a TV star too), Vince Vaughn, and Jonah Hill. The three play a couple of suburban guys who decide to start a neighborhood watch program (along with rising comic actor-director Richard Ayoade) simply to give them valuable hang-out time. Soon enough, though, they stumble upon an alien investigation that they alone must foil. Ain’t that always the way? In any case, you won’t get any hint of that extraterrestrial stuff in this teaser, though you will get plenty of visual panache from director (and Lonely Island member and SNL Digital Short helmer) Akiva Schaeffer, as well as a ride-along set to Dr. Dre. Fingers crossed.
