Director Baz Luhrmann is known for his deliriously anachronistic period pieces like Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge, but his upcoming take on The Great Gatsby (starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan) is going to be more straightforward, right? “Before we even started rehearsals we were immersed entirely in [the 1920’s],†co-star Isla Fisher reassured MTV. It was just the best experience ever.†That said, she continued, “On my first day he had Jay-Z pumped up full and we did the entire scene with Jay-Z in our ear on full blast while acting and it was just so liberating.†Fisher said that take wouldn’t appear in the film, but it helped the actors shake off their nerves and hit the right tone. Fine, but if there’s a deleted scene of Leo and Carey screaming their dialogue over “Big Pimpin,†they’ve already sold us the Blu-ray.
