Ken Burns’s next nutritious test of endurance masquerading as a documentary, The Dust Bowl, will air November 18 and 19, PBS announced. Just in time for Thanksgiving? The four-hour two-part series covers the ecological disasters that plagued the Great Plains during the thirties, which, according to the deeply sad-making yet no doubt engrossing documentary, were completely preventable. It’s like all those sad, bleak black-and-white photos have finally come to life to explain to you the dangers of wheat farming and how it destabilizes top soil, resulting in dust storms that seem ripped from the pages of Deuteronomy! Thank you, Ken Burns.
