A few weeks back, Madonna performed an “Express Yourselfâ€â€“â€Born This Way†medley in what every pop culturally literate human on Earth took to be a jab at Lady Gaga’s overly familiar anthem. Late last week in New Zealand, the Monster Queen responded, sort of — she didn’t name names, but she did tell the crowd that “It sometimes makes people feel better about themselves to put other people down or make fun of them or maybe make mockery of their work, and that doesn’t make me feel good at all.†There was a bit about being a good person and writing music and not fighting back, and then, this kicker: “Things are really different than they were 25 years ago, and that’s what makes ‘Born This Way’ so relevant for me.†Ooooh, the age card! And to top it off, Gaga got hit in the head with a pole, probably suffered a concussion, and soldiered through the rest of the show Bieber-style. Advantage Gaga (and youth).
