First it was jewelry designer Eddie Borgo, whose punkish cone bracelets became a fashion editor cult favorite a few years back. Then it was Rooney Mara’s embodiment of Lisbeth Salander  — complete with tribal gauge earrings and piercings— that inspired countless fashion editorials and got more designers thinking along menacing lines. And designers have come up with all sorts of intriguing variations on the theme. Vita Fede’s gold spiked cuff riffs on ancient Persian and Mughal empire jewelry; Pristine’s diamond-encrusted horn earring is meant to be worn alone (not as a pair); while Maria Francesca Pepe’s delicate gold bangle bears just one perfect little gold spike.
