Information on two new ABC sitcoms came in over the weekend, from several entertainment industry veterans. ABC bought a new pilot called compliKATEd from producer Ben Stiller (via his company Red Hour Productions) and starring Bonnie Hunt, according to Deadline. Hunt will write the ensemble comedy, centered around a confident insecure woman with a complex life, with her frequent collaborator Don Lake, a regular in Christopher Guest’s movies. If the show gets picked up, it’ll mark Bonnie Hunt’s first primetime gig since Life with Bonnie, which also aired on ABC from 2002 to 2004.
Also at ABC, Bradley Whitford and Marcia Gay Harden are being cast in a new show, Trophy Wife, Deadline reports. The sitcom pilot stars Malin Akerman as a cleaned-up party girl who falls in love with a successful guy (Whitford) and finds herself dealing with his family of three kids and two ex-wives (one of whom will be played by Harden). Trophy Wife was created by Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins and produced by The Office writer/producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky.
