Cray-cray, indeed: American Horror Story: Asylum debuted Wednesday to very big numbers for FX. The latest chapter in Ryan Murphy’s horror franchise drew 3.9 million viewers and averaged a 2.2 rating among adults under 50. That’s better than any episode of last year’s colon-free AHS, and it’s a 37 percent jump from the AHS series premiere. Asylum also outdrew ABC’s heavily hyped Nashville in the key demo and will very likely surpass CBS’s CSI in the demo once DVR data gets figured into the Nielsen equation later this month. For those keeping score, this completes the fall 2012 hat trick for Mr. Murphy: His new NBC comedy, The New Normal, has been picked up for a full season, while Glee has been experiencing something of a creative renaissance during its fourth season (the latter’s open to debate, of course, though we’d argue the breakup episode may have been the show’s best ever).
