Not Fade Away (a.k.a. the answer to the common question “Hey, what’s that Sopranos guy been up to?â€) is David Chase’s feature-film debut. The semiautobiographical story hinges on the relationship between a father (James Gandolfini) and his son (John Magaro, doing a killer Gandolfini impression), who aspires to be a big city rock star. The film appears not to resemble The Sopranos too much, other than Gandolfini, the New Jersey setting, and how often they discuss the importance of family. Hopefully that kid shows up with a tie and a jacket, because his father has six seasons of proving his tangling prowess.
