Online retailer Amazon is gearing up to launch its first batch of original shows, and it looks like they’ll be making a big push for comedy. Amazon is preparing to greenlight its first pilot for a single-camera sitcom called Browsers from longtime Daily Show writer/producer David Javerbaum, Deadline reports. Browsers will follow four interns at a HuffPo-esque website with musical elements woven throughout. The pilot is expected to film in January. Amazon is also developing Dark Minions, an animated show written by Big Bang Theory regulars John Ross Bowie and Kevin Sussman that follows two misfits working on an evil space station. Amazon announced its original programming plan, to release new content streaming through Amazon Instant Video, in May, when the company said they’d be accepting submissions from anybody. Amazon currently has seven of these submitted projects on its “development slate†online, where you can read the scripts to and get more info about the shows. Judging by Browsers and Dark Minions, though, the folks at Amazon seem more comfortable working with established writers instead of with amateur submissions, which is probably a safer bet but a bummer for those who have sent their shows to Amazon.
