Lauren Hutton Talks Alligator-Wrestling at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards

At last night’s Glamour 2012 Women of the Year Awards, model Lauren Hutton approached Zaha Hadid, fell to her knees, and bowed her head. “There aren’t many women I’ve bowed down to,” she explained afterward. “I once dropped to my knees in front of Margaret Hamilton, who played the Wicked Witch of the West, when I saw her right on Gramercy Park, where she lived.” Hamilton’s response? “She said, ‘Oh child, get up!’” We asked each attendee about the most glamorous thing they’ve ever done; click through our slideshow for tales of shark bites, alligator-wrestling, Legos, and more.

I think that's the main criteria for being an editor-in-chief -- reading in the car without getting naseauted. My toenails are unglamorous right now because I just trained for the New York City marathon that none of us got to run."

Lauren Hutton "The most glamorous thing I've ever done is wrestle a 400-pound alligator. It took about 47 minutes to get one turned over. It's sort of like dancing. You have to throw your weight over. I did it to protect myself from Helmut Newton, who was a monster. He would have made me look ugly! I was 47 years old and this was for Vanity Fair, about 20 years ago, and he insisted on using me. Then I tried to adopt the alligator afterwards. I was going to build a water pond in my loft, and thank God, I talked myself out of it."
