It seems like for every two days these past few months, a TV network has announced a new comedy about cops. Today is no exception, as ABC just put a new cop comedy starring acclaimed stand-up Hannibal Buress into development, Deadline reports. Co-created by Buress, who is a former 30 Rock and SNL writer, and Rob Sheridan, a Canadian writer who’s worked on the Great White North comedies Little Mosque on the Prairie and 18 to Life, the single camera sitcom is inspired by Buress’s stand-up and will star him as a small town cop.
And in case you were wondering, here are the six other cop comedies in development for the 2013-2014 season. Expect there to be 10 of them by this time next week:
- An untitled cop show from Andy Samberg and Parks and Rec co-creator Michael Schur (Fox)- A Beverly Hills Cop spin-off starring Brandon T. Jackson as Axel Foley’s son (CBS)- Bill Lawrence’s Feel the Force, about two rookie female police officers trying to prove themselves in a male-dominated department (ABC)- Australian paranormal cop show import Strange Calls from Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer (ABC)- Rookie, a comedy about a woman who tries to reinvent herself with a new career as a police officer and finds her fellow officers to be her surrogate family, from Community writer/producer Andy Bobrow (ABC)- Murder Cops, an animated Fox comedy from former Family Guy showrunner David A. Goodman (Fox)*NOTE: This list doesn’t include Fox’s Axe Cop, because it’s set for this season not next, nor the upcoming Sandra Bullock-Melissa McCarthy vehicle The Heat, which is a movie, not a show.
