Paul McCartney and Dave Grohl were already announced as performers for tonight’s 12.12.12. benefit, but here is a late-breaking surprise: Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic will also be present, and the three will be playing together with touring Nirvana guitarist Pat Smear. If that sounds a lot like a Nirvana reunion but with Paul McCartney subbed in for Kurt Cobain, well, yeah — though they will apparently not be playing any Nirvana songs. And here is a probably made-up quote from Sir Paul on the experience: “I didn’t really know who they were ... And somebody whispered to me ‘That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.’ I couldn’t believe it.†See you all tonight!
