Amour won the top prize at the National Society of Film Critics Awards this weekend, just barely topping The Master by three votes. The NSFCA has not traditionally been a great predictor of Oscar success — last year, Lars von Trier’s Melancholia went from winning the Film Critics to receiving zero Academy Award nominations — but it’s still a significant honor. Amour also picked up Best Actress and Best Director. Lincoln took Best Actor and Screenplay. The Best Supporting categories offered the biggest surprises, with Amy Adams winning for The Master and Matthew McConaughey winning again for some combo of Magic Mike and Bernie. Seriously, let’s keep this McConaughey awards train going. Looking at you, Thursday’s Oscar noms announcement.
