Judd Apatow continues to believe that people find his family as interesting as he does, and considering This Is 40’s respectable $66 million domestic gross, he might be right. In an interview promoting the U.K. release of 40, he implied this obsession might continue: “I like the series Truffaut made where he revisited the same character five different times in five different movies. I think it’s fun to see people grow up.†He clarified: “I’m interested in it with Leslie and Paul’s characters, but I’m even more interested in Maude and Iris [his daughters].â€Â He pointed out that we’ve seen Maude’s Sadie character at 8 and 13, so he’s “thinking that maybe in the next one she’s in college.†(Maybe he’ll join her and turn it into a remake of Back to School.) Apatow seemed aware of the potential criticism of this: “Maybe it’s just I’m lazy and it’s a fun way to get home movies.†Though, to be fair, if we could pay Paul Rudd to star in our home movies, we probably would.
