Andy Samberg and Parks and Rec co-creator Mike Schur are making a pilot for an untitled Fox comedy about a police precinct on the edge of New York City, and the show just added two new cast members this week. According to The Hollywood Reporter, actresses Stephanie Beatriz (pictured, left) and Melissa Fumero (right) have each signed on to be regulars on the potential series, joining a cast that also includes Samberg and Terry Crews. Beatriz, best known for a recent guest spot as Sofia Vergara’s sister on Modern Family, will play Meghan, a tough and frightening police officer who scares both criminals and the other cops. Fumero, a longtime cast member of the soap One Life to Live, has the leading female role in the show as Amy, a smart cop and former middle school teacher.
Terry Crews is playing the no-nonsense sergeant who runs the detective squad, with Andy Samberg cast as the lead detective. 21 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing the pilot, which was written by Mike Schur and fellow Parks and Rec writer Dan Goor. While comedy fans may not be familiar with Fumero and Beatriz, think back to the early days of Schur and Goor’s prior series Parks and Rec, when Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt, and Aubrey Plaza were lesser known performers. With all these talented folks involved in Samberg and Schur’s untitled Fox cop show, it looks like a strong contender for a series order when the networks arrange their fall schedules this May - as long as the folks involved come up with a title first.
