Kate Mara has had a pretty stellar 2013 so far, and she’s only three months in: In addition to starring in Netflix’s addictive series House of Cards, Vulture has learned that Mara just locked down a coveted, top-secret role in Transcendence, a sci-fi epic directed by Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister. Johnny Depp will star in the film as a brilliant scientist whose mind is uploaded into a computer, while Rebecca Hall and Paul Bettany co-star. (If you’ve been following the project, you may remember that Mara’s sister Rooney was one of the finalists for the role that went to Hall.) Annie Marter, Marisa Polvino, and Kate Cohen will produce Transcendence along with David Valdes and Alcon Entertainment co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove; the big-budget project is due out April 25, 2014.
