Seth Meyers Also Says ‘SNL’ Should End When Lorne Michaels Retires

SNL cast member/head writer Seth Meyers was asked this week about the show’s future once Lorne Michaels retires - not that Michaels is retiring anytime soon - and he responded by saying he doesn’t think SNL can exist without his boss. Answering the question at a live chat with Bill Carter at 92Y Monday evening, Meyers hypothesized, “I don’t think the show can go on without Lorne.†Meyers added that it would be impossible for someone else to deal with the network as effectively as Michaels does, in addition to his duties running the show. Previous head writer Tina Fey was also asked about a post-Lorne SNL by HuffPo last week, and her response synced up with Meyers’s. “I feel like SNL is so defined by Lorne’s taste and his sensibility,†Fey explained. “That’s why any time people have tried to imitate the format and make their own version of it, you’ll notice it never really quite happens. And I think that’s because he is the center of that show.†Sorry, Jean Doumanian! Looks like you may not ever have the chance to get that job back and redeem yourself after all.
