The creators of the CW’s Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries (set in the early eighties) have said over and over that the new show is not supposed to be a mini version of the beloved original. And even though some of young Carrie Bradshaw’s story lines don’t jibe with the O.G. Carrie’s life, we’ve noticed plenty of subtle callbacks. (Call forwards?) Far beyond the obvious nods to the original series like the use of voice-over and talking about sex at a diner, Vulture has scoured The Carrie Diaries for more nuanced hints back to SATC. Carrie is a terrible cook with future plans to use her oven for storage? Check! Little Carrie Bradshaw met one of her boyfriends by bumping into him, spilling a bunch of stuff? Yup. Cupcakes?
