Chris Rock Joins the Cast of BET’s ‘Real Husbands of Hollywood’

Chris Rock is coming back to TV for his first regular on-camera series role in over a decade. HipHollywood reports that Rock has joined the cast of the BET comedy The Real Husbands of Hollywood for its second season. Co-created by Kevin Hart, Real Husbands is a semi-scripted reality show satire that stars Hart, JB Smoove, Nick Cannon, Boris Kodjoe, and Duane Martin as fictionalized versions of themselves. “I just watched the show and it seemed like they were having so much fun and I was like, ‘I want to have fun,’†Rock explains. “I’m a fan of Kevin … We see each other in passing all the time, but it’s rare when you actually get to work with each other and have fun.†Hart, who recently performed with Rock, Dave Chappelle, Marlon Wayans, and Bill Bellamy at New York’s Comedy Cellar, told the press, “That’s a mentor and a friend to me … to have him just accept an invitation is huge to me.â€

Chris Rock will be replacing cast member Robin Thicke on Real Husbands in his first regular on-camera TV role since The Chris Rock Show ended in 2000. Getting him back to TV is a major boon for the show, and it’s a testament to Kevin Hart’s prowess that he was able to talk Rock into joining the cast. Hopefully, Rock becoming a part of the cast won’t be another obstacle in the way of the Chris Rock/Dave Chappelle stand-up tour he’s been talking about.

UPDATE: Chris Rock’s publicist tells The Wrap that he is not joining the cast of the show, meaning that HipHollywood’s report was apparently incorrect. It does look like Rock is guest starring on the show, though, so there’s that.
