The New Roger Vivier Book Is Awesome Shoe Porn

“Shoes should be a beautiful object, before anything,” Bruno Frisoni, the creative director and head designer at Roger Vivier, says in an interview with Cate Blanchett in the 340-page tome dedicated to the maison’s collection of shoes. For a luxury brand that’s added much-needed heel height to the outfits of the world’s most stylish women — including Catherine Deneuve, Jackie Onassis, Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly, and even the Queen of England — there are no truer words to live by.

With contributions by Virginie Mouzat, the fashion critic of the French daily newspaper Le Figaro, Colombe Pringle, journalist and the editor of Point de Vue magazine, and many others, the book is a celebration of the the label’s evolution since its beginning in the thirties. The pages are filled with 300 color photos from vintage magazine spreads, hand-drawn sketches from both Vivier and Frisoni, and vibrant mood board collages from brand ambassador Ines de la Fressange. It not only pays tribute to the man who started it all (who is also credited for creating the first stiletto heel for Dior in 1955), Roger Vivier, but also honors Frisoni, the man who took on the reigns of the company in 2003 and evolved the iconic shoe brand into an international accessories company. In addition to photos of the brand’s signature styles such as the “buckle” and “comma” heels, the book immortalizes the brand’s more daring footwear, including boots made of feathers and furs, and their newer collections of handbags and clutches.
