After six years with no new material, the Queens of the Stone Age have had a busy few weeks. Just over a week after Josh Homme’s band announced their new album Like Clockwork (you can hear short snippets of it on their website), the group premiered a new song, “My God Is the Sun,†during their Saturday night performance at Lollapalooza Brazil. It’s classic QOTSA, a hard driving piece of slightly sleazy guitar rock, topped with Homme’s distinctive croon. The performance featured the latest in a series of constantly mutating line-ups for the band, including, as Pitchfork points out, new drummer John Theodore, formerly of The Mars Volta. No word whether the song or Theodore will appear on the new album. At one point during the recording process for Like Clockwork, Dave Grohl, who appeared on the group’s Songs for the Deaf, was in the recording studio, but as with anything QOTSA-related, other than Homme’s presence, no one knows exactly who or what will make the cut until the album hits digital and physical stores.
