Much of the early talk surrounding Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac focused on the non-simulated sex. We were told there were going to be famous people (Shia LaBeouf, Uma Thurman, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgard) having real sex onscreen. In August, we learned the scenes would be helped by the use of “body doubles and visual effects.†The Hollywood Reporter has found out what that means exactly, speaking with the film’s producer Louise Vesth: “We shot the actors pretending to have sex and then had the body doubles, who really did have sex, and in post we will digital-impose the two.†Adding: “So above the waist it will be the star and the below the waist it will be the doubles.†Sounds like our Friday night.
