The Vine 5 Film Festival: Loneliness, Death, and Exercise

Vine is a toy from Twitter that challenges users to make the most profound work ever committed to video in exactly six seconds. Or at the very least, challenges comedians to bring a little more laughter into this world. Every Tuesday we showcase five of the funniest short shorts of the past week.

Your RSS feed might be difficult and not show the videos, but trust us - they are there.

How to…(Part 2)

By Bo Burnham

Possibly to help promote his new show, or because of a recent acquisition of an iPhone, or simply because he is feeling more charitable, Bo Burnham has been pumping out a bunch of vine videos as of late, and is proving to be rather good at it. Arguably another vine of his from this past week, “Deleted Scene from ‘Fast & Furious 6’â€, was funnier, with its perfect comedic timing and everything, but this one has a dog in it. Also, you’ll think this vine every time your horny dog roughhouses with other dogs this summer.

“(Untitled)â€

By Marlo Meekins, Jordan Burt, KC James, Brittany Furlan, Nick Confalone, Curtis Lepore, Jerome Jarre and Jethro Ames

A bunch of vine all-stars - who have thus far refrained from referring to themselves as the Vineratti, or The Vinetory - joined forces to have a little pre Memorial Day fun and make some videos, surely hurting some other Vine users’ feelings in the process. Sometimes you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet, and in this delicious omelet, Full House’s dark subtext is perfectly visualized.

“Decalsâ€

By James Urbaniak

All walks of life support our President, including individuals who love The Human Centipede movies so much that they want every human being on the road behind them to know it. The joke here is Urbaniak’s reaction, and also the remarkable restraint of typing “human being†and “behind them†without extending the Centipede joke further.

“1 is the Loneliest Numberâ€

By Nick Youssef

Nick Youssef was presumably driving to Urban Outfitters to mess with the cashier when he witnessed the world’s saddest wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man. It’s a continuation of our current conversation about how deadly loneliness can be, with an addendum that witnessing someone’s isolation and futility can be almost as disheartening.

“You’ve Exercised Enough, Dianeâ€

By Pete Holmes

This vine is a million times funnier if you are familiar with Pete Holmes’ inflection whenever he attempts to sound serious, and I assume most of you are. The choice of the name “Diane†must have taken a lot of thought, with a conclusion that the name definitely had to consist of no more and no less than two syllables.

Playing in Theater 2

But What Does It All Mean? by Erik Bergstrom

Never mind everybody: Erik Bergstrom has figured it all out.

Pizza Hut by Gillian Jacobs

Pizza Hut doesn’t even consider one of America’s greatest treasures a celebrity anymore.

“And It’s Completely Anonymous†by Max Burlingame

Something tells me it’s not.

Impression by Nate Fernald

This is just a good impression.
