Just to be clear, As I Lay Dying isn’t James Franco’s movie about that famous bondage porn studio — it’s his adaptation of William Faulkner’s seminal novel. Where many directors might be reticent to take on a book with fifteen different characters acting as narrator, Franco’s ambition overwhelms any sense of what’s a logical idea. The result: We get to see Franco’s attempt at a Southern accent, Tim Blake Nelson wearing farmer clothes again, and Danny McBride in a drama. It premieres at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Can’t wait for Franco’s take on The Sound and the Fury, with Seth Rogen as Quentin Compson.
