You know that old adage: If there’s jazz piano playing and upper-middle-class people talking, then you’re probably in a Woody Allen movie trailer. In this year’s offering, Allen is back in America and focusing on two sisters. Cate Blanchett plays the Allen surrogate who was fancy and rich when she was with Alec Baldwin; after Baldwin is revealed to be a crook, she moves in with her free-spirited sister (Sally Hawkins). Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay, and Bobby Cannavale are also there, playing Hawkins’s associates. The film is set in San Francisco, just like Allen’s directorial debut, Take the Money and Run. On July 26, Blue Jasmine opens in New York and L.A., and we’ll finally see how good Blanchett is at stammering.
