On Saturday, at the first-ever Parisian Ball scheduled to celebrate Bastille Day, Governors Island transformed into a haven for Francophiles and native Frenchmen alike, easily allured by the beauty and magic of vintage carnivals, twinkling lights, music, art, and magic. Party attendees dressed up in their best interpretations of “Bastille Day outfits” and frolicked at Fête Paradiso, a French-film-meets-dreamy-fairy-tale carnival where stylish attendees rode carousels and flying swings, and played games from the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Spotted on the first set of daring, whimsical carnivalgoers: a starry blue jumpsuit (that could pass as a dress); a plethora of loose braids; mini top hats; berets; Moulin Rouge–worthy bodysuits; and the classic tied neckerchief. There was even a Marie Antoinette look-alike with pearl-dotted eyebrows. Click through the slideshow to get transported to a dreamland for the senses and all things French.
