It looks like Damon Wayans Jr. will be returning to New Girl. As you may or may not recall, Wayans appeared in the pilot for the Fox sitcom as a regular character Coach, but he had to drop out of the series when his other show, Happy Endings, received a surprise season two pickup at ABC. Lamorne Morris was added to the cast in a new role to take Wayans’s place. Now that Happy Endings is canceled, TV Line reports that Damon Wayans Jr. is in talks to return to New Girl “for a significant Season 3 arc.â€
New Girl costar Jake Johnson, who’s currently filming the buddy comedy Let’s Be Cops alongside Wayans, started talking up Coach’s return in May. It’s just a bummer that Wayans will only be back on New Girl as a recurring guest and not as a series regular.
