While summer is typically a season dominated by big-budget summer blockbusters, comedian Kevin Hart’s standup concert film Let Me Explain became a surprise hit over the holiday weekend. The movie, which followed Hart’s worldwide tour and sold-out Madison Square Garden performance, grossed $10.1 million over its opening weekend (or $17.5 million if you count Wednesday/Thursday numbers), despite only playing in 876 theaters. The impressive debut means Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain has the second-highest opening weekend for a standup movie, falling short of The Original Kings of Comedy’s $11 million in 2000. So does this mean Kevin Hart is now the most popular standup comedian in the country?
