Comedy writer Sam Simon confirmed on the podcast WTF with Marc Maron in May that he’s been given three to six months to live after a colon cancer diagnosis and that he’s donating nearly all of his massive Simpsons fortune to charity. THR has a new interview with Simon out today in which he discusses his diagnosis and explains why he’s giving his money to hunger and animal rights causes. Simon served as a writer/producer for Cheers and Taxi before co-creating The Simpsons with Matt Groening and James L. Brooks. He stayed on board the show through its fourth season, and though he departed in 1993, Simon still receives an executive producer credit on the show, which earns him “tens of millions†annually and will now be mostly going towards Simon’s charitable causes.
