Donald Glover is leaving Community, but he’s already lining up his next TV project. Deadline reports that the actor-musician-comedian is developing a half-hour comedy for FX that he will write, produce, and star in. The show is tentatively titled Atlanta, and it’s a comedy following the city’s music scene. Glover grew up in Atlanta and has a busy career in hip-hop under the name Childish Gambino. Several networks were reportedly interested in the show, but he went with FX because they could accommodate his music touring schedule.
Last year, Donald Glover was developing a comedy loosely based on his life with NBC and 30 Rock writer Matt Hubbard, but that project fell by the wayside. He’ll be appearing in the first five episodes of Community’s 13-episode fifth season before being written out of the show. Knowing that he’s working on this new show makes Glover’s Community exit make a lot more sense.
