Dave Chappelle’s time on the Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival tour has been eventful, but at least we’re all getting some good stories out of it. The latest is his account of working with Kanye West back in 2004, when West made his first TV appearance on Chappelle’s Show. According to Chapelle, West got a phone call while they were watching upcoming sketches from the show. “This is when I knew he was gonna be famous,†Chappelle said. “He answers the phone, he goes, ‘Hello. Huh? What? Uh uh, I can’t. I can’t. Cause, I’m at Dave Chappelle’s show watching sketches that nobody’s ever seen before.’ And then he says, ‘Cause my life is dope, and I do dope shit,’ and then he hung up the phone.†You can hear the audio of that story and the rest of his set over at Spin.
