Amazon Bought a Comedy Pilot From Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman

Amazon Studios is launching its two new series, Alpha House and Betas, next year, but the streaming service has already ordered three new comedy pilots. The first, Mozart in the Jungle, is written by Roman Coppola and will star Jason Schwartzman and Alex Timbers. The show is based on the memoir of oboist Blair Tindall, and “is all about sex, drugs and classical music,†according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Another pilot, The Outlaws, “focuses on the ins and outs of a pro football team from the perspective of both the players and the back office, â€Â and is executive produced by NFL-player-turned-TV host Michael Strahan. The third show, Transparent, stars Jeffrey Tambor and is “a darkly comedic story about an L.A. family with serious boundary issues.â€

Last spring, Amazon posted its eight pilots online, allowing users to vote on which ones they wanted to see go to series. Those were submitted through the studio’s open door policy, which allowed anyone to submit their half-hour pilot script for consideration.
