Celebs and Louis Vuitton Bags: A Love Affair

Heather Locklear’s 2001 red-carpet combination of a bra top, long blazer, and Richie Sambora may have been questionable, but that elegant Louis Vuitton bag was most certainly fine, broadcasting a sense of covetable luxury that no one could take away. And such is the power of the famed monogram first introduced in 1896, over 100 years before Marc Jacobs came to the house.

When Marc Jacobs took the LV helm, he brought a new spirit with a series of collaborations that produced an “It” bag, for every “It” girl, starlet, model, and bat-mitzvah-present recipient. In 2001, Stephen Sprouse’s graffiti bag added a dose of irreverence that appealed to punk-model Agyness Deyn. In 2008, Murakami’s rainbow LV’s and anime cherry blossoms brought enough bubblegum cheerfulness that pop princess Jessica Simpson wouldn’t leave home without it.
