Community creator Dan Harmon, who said a bunch of harsh stuff about season four of the show over the summer and instantly apologized, is saying a bunch of harsh stuff about that Harmon-less season again. While he previously compared watching the fourth season to watching his family get raped, he’s making analogies between season four and serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer this time around. Harmon recently took to a subreddit thread called “Unpopular Opinions About the ‘Unpopular Opinions About Community’ Thread, upset over a couple people saying season four was bad because of flaws in season three, and started interacting with fans.
Check out the best of Harmon’s recent Reddit posts below:
If I see one more pseudo scientific observation that season 4 was season 3’s fault I’m going to make every episode of season 5 about the teenagers from season 2.
Whenever I talk to other TV writers, especially showrunners, about the online aspect of our work, they always ask why I interact with fans online, like the internet is a basement or a sewer. I always thought they were just being entitled upper class twits, repressing so much shame about their unearned stations that they didn’t dare go to the marketplace for fear of getting robbed of their power. I was born and raised in the market. It comes with issues at the top, among the entitled upper class twits that run the whole shebang. I’ll never pretend to like them and vice versa.
Love or hate whatever details of the show you want but if you cast yourself as part of some overall faction, as if there’s such a thing as a Pro This or a Loyalist That, as if it’s possible to be a True or Untrue fan of Community, the only side that wins is going to be certain entities that shall remain nameless, that resent this show, resent all of you, and resent me and that can’t wait for it to go away quietly. They want to prove nothing ever happened. The ones driving the truck. This can be the third act of a great movie you guys. Shit can be about to go down. I have a feeling bad guys are going to be falling in poop to tuba music while armies of actual underdogs - the unmeasured - cheer. Not in the actual show. The show is mostly going to be muppets. It’s cheaper.
Let’s see if we can craft a metaphor here…Saying season 3 sucked is like punching my brother. I wish it wouldn’t happen but my brother probably deserved it, he’s kind of nuts. But I love him, you know? I don’t talk to him, but he’s my brother.Saying season 4 sucked is like punching…let’s say Jeffrey Dahmer. He’s from my home town, but I didn’t know him and he ate 17 people.Saying season 3 sucked so bad that it made season 4 suck is like feeding my brother to Jeffrey Dahmer. I have no idea if he deserves it, it doesn’t matter if he does, it bums me out, there’s nothing I can do, but definitely no need to argue about it.Explaining why season 4 is season 3’s fault and how it’s important to state your opinion and I should really calm down is like feeding my brother to Dahmer really slowly, while wearing Harry Potter glasses that you keep pushing up on the bridge of your nose.Saying anything about community sucked is like punching. It would be great if it never happened but so would having a gumdrop-exhaust-powered jet pack.
Harmon also mentioned that, although NBC has only ordered 13 episodes this season, they’ve ordered an option of an additional two episodes making for a total of 15:
Well, to be more specific at the risk of being provocative, they told us to be prepared for the possibility of doing two more. Keeping in mind that possible is different from likely. It’s possible I could live to 110, and not likely.Right now I don’t think there’s anyone that knows what’s going to happen with the schedule, I think everyone’s waiting for more variables to be defined.
