As a professional problem-fixer for the D.C. elite on the ABC series Scandal, Olivia Pope wears a slew of well-tailored suits, sleek shifts, and White House–appropriate workwear. In real life, the actress who plays Pope is far more daring. Kerry Washington has been making bold choices for years, but it was during her Django Unchained press tour that she drew the most attention for her fashion-forward, showstopping looks. Some notable moments from the past year include the jewel-tone yellow Jason Wu gown she wore to the CFDAs, a semi-sheer, sparkly Miu Miu number for the Golden Globes, a Giles runway look for the London Django premiere, and a fun Giambattista Valli design for a real visit to the White House for the annual Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
