Sacha Baron Cohen was award the Charlie Chaplin Award For Excellence In Comedy over the weekend at the annual BAFTA LA Britannia Awards, and he couldn’t accept such an honor without pulling off a brutal prank. A woman, who introduced as an 87-year-old actress named Grace Collington who co-starred with Chaplin as a child, gifted Cohen with an original cane of Chaplin’s; things got a big violent after that. According to TV Guide, Cohen “dedicated†his award to Collington, saying, “It’s obviously a tragedy , but on the bright side what a great way to go. She’ll probably make the Oscars In Memoriam section. … Anyway, tonight is not about her. It’s about me.†Some in the audience loved the bit, while others were so upset that host Rob Byrdon interrupted the show to reassure the crowd. The Britannia Awards air on BBC America on Sunday night.
