McCarren Park in Williamsburg opened its long-awaited ice skating rink this weekend to the delight of the neighborhood. Despite 60-degree temperatures, melting ice, and long lines, skaters trekked to the rink from across the borough. The warm November light gave way to a string-bulb-lit night as figure skaters lapped the rink alongside first-timers, dads took the kids out for the day, girlfriends embraced the holidays, and a teenager celebrated his birthday. The Cut sent photographer Marisha Camp and reporter Katie Van Syckle to capture the beaucoup fur, flannel, and sparkles. Click through our slideshow to see the images.

Anike Rudder, Flatbush. How did you pick your outfit today? Well today, since I was going skating, I wanted to be a little fashionable while I’m skating. I love fashion.
How do you describe your style? Mostly I love glitter and hearts, and I like pink, purple, blue.
So you're a glam girl? Yeah.
Have you ice skated before? No.
What do you think? I think it’s kind of fun. Photo: Marisha Camp

Kimberly Bush, 2.5, with his father, Vincent Skeltis, from Williamsburg. How did he get dressed today? He dressed himself. He wears soccer jerseys every day. He wanted to wear shorts — that wasn’t okay — so long socks. It was a compromise.
Is he a fan of Manchester United? Yes.
But he picked out his outfit? Every day. He’s a Williamsburg kid.
I like his haircut. That’s his douchebag father. Photo: Marisha Camp

Fe Noel, 26, Canarsie. How did you pick your outfit today? This is my favorite sweater. I got it at a vintage shop. It’s actually a man’s store and I fell in love, so I wear it almost every day.
Where did you get the fur? On 35th, there’s like a fur store there, Georges. I like fur, I’ll attach it to a little sweater or a jacket. Photo: Marisha Camp

What goes into the training? They just test you to see if you know how to skate, hockey stops.
How long is the shift? Today I start at 10 and I’m here until 4, so I guess 6 hours or 7 hours depending on the day.
And pretty good pay? No. But free ice skating. So I’m not complaining.
Do you have another job? I freelance — catering, construction, anything that pays, really.
Did you grown up skating? I used to go to Prospect Park.
And you were good enough to get the job? Yeah, I’m one of the top two skaters here.
The bosses told you? No, from looking at everyone else skating. Photo: Marisha Camp

When did you learn to skate? I was 4 when I learned to skate. When I was 5, I started to play hockey. And now I know how to stop, and my drills. Now I’m going to be in the game, and I’m getting my team.

Is this her first time on skates? Sharon: Yeah. She didn’t do so well. She tried to walk, so she didn’t get the concept. But she can walk better now on land.
How did you pick out her outfit? She’s wearing a Harajuku Mini from Target jacket, Uniqlo leggings, and H&M socks.
Do you like to get her dressed up? I actually did style her because I was planning to take pictures on the rink.
Do you like to style her? Yeah, and I style her differently than what I normally [wear]. I like to dress her preppy. I got her boat shoes that I really love, but I wouldn’t wear them myself. Photo: Marisha Camp

Anna Drozda, 30, Bushwick.Where do you usually skate? I skate a lot at Bryant Park. It’s free and it’s really good ice. I also skate at City Ice in Long Island and Sky Rink in Chelsea. But we live in the neighborhood, so I’m really hoping to come here after work and double my practice time.
Would you describe yourself as a hobbyist? Yeah, I skated as a kid, I got up to the juvenile level, which meant I had double jumps. I quit when I was 13 and I’ve been back into it the last 2 or 3 years.
Tell me about your hair. I just love beehives. It’s all teasing. I just love big hair. Photo: Marisha Camp

Noel Cline, 23, and Paige Patterson, 23, Williamsburg. Are you roommates? Noel: Yeah, we’re roommates. Every Christmas we come and go ice skating and then see the Rockettes. They just opened this over here, so we decided to come over here today because we live like five minutes away.
Where did you move from?Paige: I’m from Kentucky. Noel: I’m Virginia. We actually interned together at Milly and we stayed close friends.
What were you thinking about with your skating outfits?Paige: Wanted to be trendy, but holiday-ish that would look nice for the Rockettes later tonight and dinner.
Tell me about your choices. Paige: I feel like I’m looking very Brooklyn. Noel: And I look very preppy. Photo: Marisha Camp

And why did you...Aniya Rudder and Anastasia Rudder, both 3, with their mother, Diana Rudder, from Flatbush.Have they ever ice skated before? No.
And why did you decide to bring them out? I saw it open on TV yesterday, so I thought okay, let’s try it. There’s four of them, the other ones are around here.
Do you often dress them in matching outfits? Yeah, but I try to do different colors because they’re already close in resemblance. So I do different colors.
How often do you dress them similarly? Five days a week.
Is it just too hard to resist? Yeah, because when I put one in one thing, then she wants the same thing. Photo: Marisha Camp

This bag I got on eBay, it’s a vintage Celine bag.Do you buy a lot of stuff on eBay? Not usually, but occasionally I’ll find a cool thing. I bought a suitcase on eBay, a Tumi suitcase.
What do you have in your bag? Just like, cell phone stuff. I do have Chapstick, which might come in later.
But you didn’t want to put it in a locker? I wanted to get out on the ice. I didn’t want to waste my time with a locker.
It does like you are going to the office. I feel like this is how they commute in Canada. Photo: Marisha Camp

Charlotte Svenson, 21, Greenpoint, and Steven Berry, 25, Park Slope. Is it a date day?Charlotte: Yes, definitely. I’m from the South, I’ve never really done anything like this before.
What do you think?Steven: I think this is a really cute setup, I work in midtown at Bryant Park, so I walk past that ice skating rink the whole time, and this is much quainter. Less crowded, cooler skates.
Was it ever hard for you to pull off a fedora?Charlotte: You can’t un-wear a fedora, that’s what I always say.
What do you mean? It’s just a thing, once you have it on, you’re that guy who wears fedoras.
And you’re okay with being with that guy? I’m okay with it.
What are you wearing? Well I’ve had these necklaces for a really long time, I’m from New Orleans, and this the key to the house that I lost in Katrina, and this a medal from the school I graduated from.
How did you guys meet? Worst question ever, but so relevant. We actually met on Tinder. Photo: Marisha Camp

Jamie Valleau, 24, Lefferts Gardens. How did you decide to take your brother skating? Well I had just heard that this was opening this weekend and we’re having a family dinner this evening, so it just seemed like a good thing to do with the daytime.
Who is coming to dinner? Jamie: Oh, everybody: three more of my brothers, and her sister, and her husband, and my mom and her husband. Lewis: Last month for his birthday, we jumped out of an airplane. Photo: Marisha Camp

Calise Frue, 6, with her father, Peter. What did you think about getting dressed for skating? Peter: We always get dressed, especially on the weekends. We all just love clothing. I’m a tailor.
How do you get your kids dressed? It depends on what mood they’re in, because colors kind of go with mood. I’ll actually allow them to pick their own stuff, and help them.
And I’ve noticed you and your daughter both have purple, is that intentional? Her and I dress similarly. I have a plaid shirt, so she has a plaid shirt under that sweater. There’s purple in my shirt so she wanted to put on a purple thing.
What are you going to do after skating? Get a snack and head to the movies. Photo: Marisha Camp

How long have you been friends? It’s been already four years.
Do you remember each other in school? The first time, yeah, we were sitting next to each other and she was asking me a question, and from there we just started hanging out. And you were just like "I like that girl?" Yeah, I was like, "She’s cool." Photo: Marisha Camp
