Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are working together again, though, sadly, not acting together. Hanks will be producing Ryan’s directorial debut, Ithaca. Beyond directing, Ryan will star alongside Sam Shepard, Melanie Griffith and Jack Quaid. Adapted from William Saroyan’s popular 1943 novel The Human Comedy, the movie is a coming-of-age story set in WWII-era America, focusing on a teenage boy who, after his brother goes to war, is tasked with looking after his widowed mother, older sister, and younger brother. Oooh, but then, what if he grows up (now played by Hanks, making a cameo) to open a bookstore — like a bookstore so big it pushes out a little bookstore — and in doing so he meets the owner of said little bookstore (Ryan) and they fall in love on the Upper West Side of Manhattan (Riverside Park)? That would be nice.
