American Idol judge and sometimes actress Jennifer Lopez will return to (more tightly) scripted television as Shades of Blue’s Harlee McCord, a single mom and dirty cop who is recruited to be an undercover agent for the FBI’s anti-corruption task force. She then finds herself in the unenviable position of deciding whether to “work against†her fellow corrupt officers, who all just happen to be helping her raise her young daughter. NBC has made a thirteen-episode straight-to-series order of the show, which will be written by Adi Hasak and executive produced by Lopez, her fellow Idoler Ryan Seacrest, and some other people. Shades of Blue will premiere during the 2015-2016 season, hopefully with a theme song about how Harlee will keep it real as she considers the possibility of betraying her friends in exchange for her own redemption.
