Last February, Johnny Depp signed on to star as Whitney Bulger in Black Mass, a biopic of the Boston mobster. Then, in May, Depp left the project after being asked to reduce his pay from $20 million to $10 million. Now things are looking up for those who really want to see Depp play yet another notorious criminal: According to Deadline, he is now officially onboard again to play Bulger, and Tom Hardy is in “early talks†to play John Connolly, an FBI agent and Bulger’s childhood friend (who eventually tipped Bulger off about an impending indictment and is himself in prison for murder). Sounds good! But then, so did Public Enemies.
