Judd Apatow gave a nice lengthy interview in front of students at Loyola Marymount last week (via THR), and in it, he revealed that he and his fellows Girls producers Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner have discussed ending the show after six seasons:
How many more seasons are you going to do of Girls? We’ve talked about doing six seasons. I guess that could change, it’s not set … I think we’re all committed that we’ll do six …Do you have an ending in mind?No I don’t think so. But we’ve talked about it. It makes you respect the ending of The Sopranos though. When you’re part of a show and you think about, how do you end a series, the idea that you just stop and leave people there is so genius, it’s such a great idea. It’s such a great way of saying, it doesn’t matter. This is their life and now we’re just going to leave them to it.
If Girls sticks with its current schedule, its sixth season will be airing in 2017, so you have a lot of time to deal with saying goodbye to the show.
