As exciting as it would be to report that the Scarface reboot will not have a director of any kind, it’s almost as exciting to report that Chilean director Pablo LarraÃn, most recently of the 2012 historical drama No, is in negotiations to direct the new Tony Montana. It also makes more sense. According to The Wrap, the protagonist of LarraÃn’s Scarface will be a Mexican immigrant who ascends to power amongst the drug cartels of Los Angeles. In addition to switching locales and ethnic backgrounds, the new Tony Montana will allegedly have a different surname and a storyline that explores where “Tony’s physical and emotional wounds come from and how they shaped him as a man.†Hey, as long as Tony still has a little friend and at least one person gets to say hello to it.
